Tom Coughlin, Giants close to contract extension

The New York Giants expect to soon have a contract extension in place with Coach Tom Coughlin, who has won two Super Bowls with the team in the last four years.

“We're working on it,” owner John Mara said Wednesday night as the team received its new rings. “It will be done sooner rather than later.”

At 65, Coughlin, is entering the final year of his contract and has indicated that he could coach another four or five years. Mara doesn’t anticipate any hiccups in getting a deal done.

“When we were in the middle of the season and things weren't looking very good [with a four-game losing streak], this team really pulled together,” co-owner Steve Tisch said. “Coach Coughlin really knew what to say to those guys, when to say it and how to say it and that is why we are here tonight.”
