Wimbledon 2011: Sharapova-Lisicki semifinal isn’t live on U.S. TV

The Wimbledon semifinal between Maria Sharapova and Sabine Lisicki will be shown a little later today by NBC on tape delay. And we don’t mind telling you right now that the match isn’t really a classic.

If you love sports and you love to watch them unfold in real time, is there a more irksome thing than tape delay? Particularly when the alternative programming is, as Chris Chase of Yahoo noted a compelling 17th hour of “Today” in which Hoda and Kathie Lee interviewed Linda Hogan about her new book, “Wrestling the Hulk.” (Elsewhere, ESPN was doing business as usual, except on ESPN 2, where it was showing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Roger Federer.)

Serves ’em right that they’re getting a dud of a match.
