World Series Game 6: Fox affiliate, baseball were a little quick on Texas Rangers’ trigger finger

With the St. Louis Cardinals twice on the brink of elimination, down to the final strike and the final out, it seemed as if the Texas Rangers were going to wrap up the World Series in Game 6.

But until the last out is called, caution is called for — one must not spit in the baseball gods’ eyes by, say, preparing for the postgame celebration in the clubhouse or alerting an eager populace to the big news. (Just ask the Miami Herald.)

Admittedly, it did seem like the Cardinals were eminently forkable, so baseball’s leaders did what they do to prepare the clubhouse for the bubbly aftermath. Only this time, the plastic curtains covering lockers might as well have said “Mission Accomplished.” After David Freese’s walkoff home run forced Game 7, the plastic quickly came down.

But there was no undoing the text alert Dallas’ Fox affiliate sent clients. Maybe Fox meant Game 7 ...
