Mitt Romney’s wife Ann has joined the social network Pinterest.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Republican presidential candidate’s wife had 3,278 followers and had created seven boards, including ones for recipes, patriotic photos, books and campaign and family pictures. She is not yet following anyone (though we invite her to follow The Washington Post on Pinterest here).

Zac Moffatt, the digital director for the Romney campaign, said Mrs. Romney is doing the “pinning” herself, with guidance from some other family members.

Though several of the 2012 hopefuls spouses have embraced social media, Romney is the first to promote her Pinterest page. Callista Gingrich and Michelle Obama are both on Twitter as@CallyGingrich and @MichelleObama. Ann Romney also has a Facebook page.

Mitt Romney tweeted about his wife’s Pinterest page Tuesday morning, shortly after Think Progress, the social media arm of the liberal Center for American Progress, published a Pinterest board of images of the upscale resorts and hotels mentioned in the candidate’s FEC reports.

The Think Progress board was the second Pinterest effort in recent weeks assembled to tease Mitt Romney. Another user created a Pinterest account under the name Mitt Romney that pinned items like caviar, Pellegrino and expensive art, which has since been renamed as “”

Petula Dvorak explains Pinterest in her most recent column, describing it as “crack for women,” though, as Katie Rogers noted in the Buzz, the site hosts an abundance “not-necessarily girlie pins.”
