Rick Perry has knocked Mitt Romney for being Obama-lite and at the debate Tuesday night, Romney seems to have taken a page from Obama, emphasizing compromise and working across the aisle. Asked how he would address Washington gridlock, Romney said:
The real course for America is to have someone who is a leader, who can identify people in both parties who care more about the country than they care about getting re-elected.
There are Democrats like that. There are Republicans like that. I was the governor of a state that had a few Democrats. People in this room know how many we had in Massachusetts..
Romney’s emphasis on compromise echoes Chris Christie, governor of blue New Jersey who has had to reach bipartisan compromise as well. And in his recent speech at the Reagan library, Christie emphasized the need for leadership and compromise, mentioning that very phrase multiple times. Could this be a new theme for Romney?
