Election Day is still seven months away – and a GOP nominee has yet to be chosen — but that doesn’t mean that President Obama is waiting to jump into the 2012 race.

So far, the Obama campaign has spent $2.2 million on campaign ads – more than has been spent by the campaigns of either former senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) or former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

On top of that, Obama and Vice President Biden have been hitting the campaign trail, and it’s no accident that many of the events they’re holding have been in key swing states as well as in states where the GOP nominating contest is at its most heated, such as Wisconsin, which votes tomorrow.
