George Allen's losing bid to reclaim his former Senate seat against Virginia Sen.-elect Tim Kaine (D) was his last political campaign, he told the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Monday.

“I have no intention of running for office again,” Allen said, adding he and wife Susan "put our heart and soul into this campaign."

Allen spent 30 years in Virginia politics, culminating with a term as the state's governor in the '90s and in the U.S. Senate from 2001-2007. But he lost his last two races, to Kaine this year and to Sen. Jim Webb (D) in 2006.
