Jewish donor on Bachmann confusion: ‘No!’

The search for a Jewish donor to Michele Bachmann’s campaign who mistook her for a Jewish candidate goes on. Moments ago, the Erik Wemple Blog spoke with Jonathan Gold, a doctor who works at the Dermatology Center of North Jersey (Clifton).

Gold gave Bachmann’s presidential campaign $1,000 in June. “Can you believe it?” asks Gold in jest. “I must have fallen off a ladder.”

Small talk aside, it was time for the question: Did you think that Bachmann was Jewish. “No!” shouted Gold, who said he was Jewish while in the same breath noting that such information was “irrelevant.” For the rest of this brief conversation, Gold burst with frustration over the line of questioning, calling it “stupid,” “silly,” and stating that it “doesn’t make any sense.”

The New York Post reported yesterday that top-tier Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was losing Jewish donors to Bachmann because they perceived her as Jewish.

Erik Wemple writes the Erik Wemple blog, where he reports and opines on media organizations of all sorts.
