Wrong outlet, said Fox News chief Roger Ailes, according to Gabriel Sherman in a New York magazine story. Palin is under contract to Fox, a $1 million-per-year deal that doesn’t expire until 2013. At that price, of course, Ailes has every right to expect that Palin will bring her exclusives to Fox. That, after all, is the whole idea behind the contract.
The only part of the story that makes no sense is that Ailes, according to Sherman, was “infuriated” by the episode: “Ailes was so mad, he considered pulling her off the air entirely until her $1 million annual contract expires in 2013.”
Hasn’t Ailes ever read the headlines, the book titles and Palin’s own self-characterizations? She’s a maverick, a rogue, an independent thinker.
According to Joe McGinniss in “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin”: This maverick, when she was elected mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, put ”God Loves You Sarah Palin” on the mayor’s official computer. This maverick refused to take her gubernatorial oath of office in the state capital of Juneau. This maverick fired her state public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, for suspect reasons. This maverick bailed on her governorship after just two and a half years. This maverick [self-serve your own Palin anecdote right here.]
Roger Ailes, don’t you know how mavericks operate?
