CNN Chief National Correspondent John King made a huge splash on Wednesday with an erroneous report that authorities had ID’d and arrested a “dark-skinned” suspect in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. Following a massive backlash, King took to the airwaves Wednesday afternoon questioning what was up with his sources and also tweeted yesterday evening:
Source of that description was a senior government official. And I asked, are you sure? But I’m responsible. What I am not is racist.

Since the “dark-skinned” fiasco, careful viewers have begun to notice a declining presence by King on CNN’s programming:
Don’t jinx it. RT @simonmaloy: Conspicuously absent from CNN’s coverage today (unless I missed him): John King.

Wonder if Matt Lauer and John King are playing backgammon together somewhere.

This from nonstop cable-news watcher Dorsey Shaw:
Did CNN bench John King? Is Anderson Cooper on a plane to New England yet? SO MANY QUESTIONS!
— Dorsey Shaw (@dorseyshaw) April 19, 2013
So what’s the deal? Has King been benched?
Hardly, according to a CNN source. He flew off to Dallas to interview former President George W. Bush in advance of the opening of his presidential library on May 1. And he’ll be back on air “shortly,” according to a CNN source.
