1) It starts wonderfully. Rabinowitz is asked why on earth New Yorkers have this bike program — “Are we too fat?” Rabinowitz responds. “Do not ask me to enter the mind of the totalitarians running this government of the city.”
2) It deploys the word “begrimed.” No elaboration necessary here.
3) It contains a Wall Street Journalian assertion of arrogance. We hear on the video that Rabinowitz is a member of the Journal’s editorial board. That position, apparently, confers some killer authority. “I represent the majority of citizens,” she proclaims at one point in the discussion.
4) It takes aim at a perennial and obsessive topic in big-city America. Wherever space is at a premium in the United States, there is a swinging, brawling and never-ending debate over the relative villainy of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. They’re always pointing fingers at one another, and the great thing about it is that all three groups are scofflaws.
