The chart above, part of Gallup’s annual Governance survey, packs some startling revelations for contemporary America: “[F]ar more Americans say the media are too liberal than too conservative.” By a margin of 46 percent to 13 percent, in fact, which is roughly in keeping with the way things have stood for the past decade or so. In attempting to sum up the mind-numbing and never-ending debate over the ideological disposition of the American media, Gallup notes in its “Bottom Line” section: “Regardless of whether the media do favor a liberal point of view, the plurality of Americans perceive it does. Far fewer Americans see the media as too conservative.”

*America, in this case, means “a random sample of 1,510 adults, age 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.” The poll was conducted Sept. 5-8.
