On his Sunday show “Media Buzz,” Fox News’s Howard Kurtz noted that an MSNBC critic or two had taken issue with the decision of Fox News anchor Bret Baier to press Hillary Rodham Clinton on Benghazi in a Tuesday interview. “To the surprise of no one who has watched Fox over the last two years, the first — count ’em — eight questions, eight questions were about Benghazi,” said MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.
Kurtz spotted an opening here. “I would just note that Diane Sawyer of ABC spent several minutes on Benghazi and I didn’t see people beating her up over that.” That may be understating things: The Sawyer-Clinton-Benghazi-interview segment lasts nearly 10 minutes and features nearly 20 questions. Regardless of where you place the questions and how many you pose, Benghazi is an essential issue for a Clinton interview.
