On last night’s “Daily Show,” host Jon Stewart talked with former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton about her preferences for the shape of her office, the conflict between Israel and Hamas and other, very weighty issues of policy. The tone comes through via this question from Stewart: “Can we expect other countries to view us with such nuance when we so clearly don’t view them with nuance and that type of understanding?” Through it all, the Benghazi attacks of Sept. 11, 2012 — a huge event in Clinton’s secretaryship — got short shrift, if any shrift at all. Sure — Stewart did mention that “there are constant calls for testimony,” an apparent reference to the possibility that a House special select committee will call on Clinton to testify — again — about the events that claimed the lives of four U.S. personnel. But the “Daily Show” host seems to have made a calculated decision that the Benghazi shoreline has been covered, even though Clinton, on her “Hard Choices” book tour, has faced grillings on the topic from CBS News, NBC News, CNN, ABC News and Fox News.*
