That comment fueled a great deal of followup coverage on Fox News, as presidential remarks tend to do. Stewart ripped the network for fixating so much on Obama’s remarks about Fox News and not about the substance of his input at the event: namely, stuff about poverty, economic opportunity, families — in other words, the very topics that Fox News commentators, as Stewart noted in some carefully selected clips, have urged him to address.
Whether or not Obama is a “regular” watcher of Fox News, his point about the poverty-oriented worldview of Fox News is “easily provable and decidedly true,” Stewart argued, before showing a mashup of remarks from Fox News types lashing out at all the “moochers” in America. Example: “You’re not being mean to poor people?” Fox News host Gretchen Carlson asked Stuart Varney, who responded, “I am. I am being mean to poor people. Frankly I am.” There’s plenty more similar stuff.
