Greg Gutfeld, the wisecracking co-host of Fox News’ popular afternoon roundtable program “The Five” and former host of “Red Eye,” is getting his own eponymous vehicle at the network: “The Greg Gutfeld Show” premieres Sunday, May 31, at 10 p.m. It’s unclear whether such a mellow time slot is appropriate for Gutfeld’s frontal attacks on societal conformity, received wisdom and general whinyness among Americans. But Fox News chief Roger Ailes feels confident about it. “Gutfeld is a distinctly versatile talent whose quick-witted humor and gift for comedy writing will enable him to stand out in primetime on Sunday nights,” the boss said in a statement — and, hey, just about every new show launched by Ailes seems to stand out in the ratings, so who is the Erik Wemple Blog to disagree? A description from Fox News reads: ” ‘The Greg Gutfeld Show’ will be a multi-faceted comedic hour, with parodies on current events, conversation on key issues and signature monologues showcasing Gutfeld’s eclectic humor.” Does that sound a bit like an un-politically correct “Daily Show”?
