The mantra comes from every pro-Trump apologist in the land. “It’s Donald Trump talking directly to the American people,” said Stephen K. Bannon of the president’s Twitter habit in a “60 Minutes” interview after stepping down from his White House position. “It gives him the ability to speak directly to the people without the bias of the media filtering those types of communications,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The president himself has declared as much:

True enough.

Yet when you brag about speaking directly to the American people, you surrender the talking point in which you denounce the media for how it portrays you. In a press gaggle on Wednesday afternoon, Trump declared, “I think the press makes me more uncivil than I am. People don’t understand: I went to an Ivy League college, I was a nice student, I did very well. I’m a very intelligent person. The fact is I think, I really believe, I think the press creates a different image of Donald Trump than the real person.”

Yeah! When will the media elites stand up and take full responsibility for the following?
