Kaiser Family Foundation has put together a helpful map that tracks where, exactly, federal health reform dollars are getting spent (interactive version here):
California leads the pack, netting over $1 billion in Affordable Care Act funds. That’s no surprise: The state has aggressively implemented the federal overhaul and was the first in the nation to move forward on a health insurance exchange.
More notable are two close behind: Michigan and Texas, who have netted $815 million and $742 million respectively. Both have Republican governors; neither is too keen on implementing the federal overhaul. The lion’s share of these dollars are not flowing through the state government, but rather federal programs that assist employers in providing affordable insurance.
