Japan’s prime minister starts English Twitter account

The office of Japan’s Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, launched an English-language Twitter account Wednesday to provide information about the country’s recovery. According to the account description, the tweets are largely translations of the office’s Japanese-language account, Kantei_Saigai.

Twitter and other social media have played a big role keeping the rest of the world updated on the situation in Japan. The English-language account now has over 16,000 followers.
