Waiting for the HTC Thunderbolt? Mark March 21 in your calendar...but in pencil. A tentative report from Boy Genius Report places the HTC Thunderbolt release date for March 21. The site got tips from two independent sources, but it also admitted that the people they heard from don’t have a history of leaking good information. On the other hand, a March 21 release date for Verizon’s first 4G phone does jive with a date that showed up birefly on an HTC Facebook page. (Did we mention the report was tentative?)

The March 21 date was also independently picked up by Android fan site Droid Life , after talks with an unnamed Verizon employee.

Verizon’s first LTE phone has been plagued with release delays and those waiting to get their hands on it are getting more than a little antsy. Verizon even sort of acknowledged the frustration with the delays, posting the following message on its Facebook page on the Feb. 28:

Hey fans, we appreciate all the excitement about the anticipated launch of the ThunderBolt by HTC. We’re excited too! Verizon 4G LTE is America’s fastest, most advanced 4G network & we want to ensure the advanced technology behind our first 4G LTE phone is flawless. We will announce its release date as soon as it is confirmed. Thanks for your support & patience while we work to bring you the ThunderBolt by HTC.

So far, launch dates for the Thunderbolt have ranged from February 14 to March 10. Clearly, that hasn’t happened. No one really knows what’s caused the delays, though there have been speculations that it has something to do with problems switching between 3G and LTE.

One Android community, Droid Life, said it confirmed that the Thunderbolt launch was not going o happen this week because of the iPad 2 launch. As if the battle between Apple fans and Android fans needed any more fuel....

Android fans: Are you sick of waiting for the Thunderbolt? Or are you as excited as ever to get your hands on the phone?
