Robin Williams, beard, star in ‘Zelda’ 3D ad

A hirsute Robin Williams shows off his devotion to Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series in a recent commercial for the 3DS version of The Ocarina of Time, which is due to hit shelves on Sunday.

Williams stars in the spot with his 23-year old daughter, Zelda, who is named — you guessed it — after the princess.

Check out the “aww”-worthy commercial, courtesy of Wii Italia’s YouTube channel. And note the “link” pun:

The Zelda series celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with the 3D version of its classic title and a new title for the Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Naming your daughter after your favorite video game shows quite the devotion, but kudos to the elder Williams for choosing Zelda instead of something like Aeris or even Like, as an Israeli couple named their daughter to honor the Facebook button.

Zelda at least gives his daughter some plausible deniability — The New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff pointed out she could claim Zelda Fitzgerald if she was ever embarrassed.
