This is the latest in a string of acquisitions from the micro-blogging company, which is moving from being the framework for a larger Twitter ecosystem of apps to consolidating its user experience under the Twitter brand.

With BackType, the company will be able to more accurately measure the social networking capabilities of individual users and track how Tweets travel through the network. That will likely mean more in-house features for Twitter users in the foreseeable future.

The company, already based in San Francisco, will relocate its team to Twitter’s offices, according to a post from BackType.
