Empires & Allies, Zynga’s new game, loses the ‘ville’

Zynga, the Facebook gaming juggernaut, has launched a new game that — shockingly — doesn’t end with the suffix “ville.” Instead, Empires & Allies, lets users engage villains and each other in combat as they build their personal empires.

“Empires & Allies is strategy combat gone social – think CityVille meets Risk,” said Amer Ajami, the game’s executive producer.

The game is scheduled to launch today, June 1, on Facebook in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish, traditional Chinese, Malay, Korean and Norwegian.

While it has found success recycling its Farmville model with CityVille, FrontierVille and, of course, GagaVille, the game company appears to be diversifying its model in advance of its initial public offering.

Zynga is expected to offer its IPO any day now, according to a report from All Things Digital.
