Adam Gettis reflects on his first NFL start

The moment that Chris Chester injured his ankle in practice Monday, rookie Adam Gettis knew he would be the starting right guard against Buffalo on Thursday night in the Redskins’ preseason opener.

Regardless the circumstances, he was grateful to start in his first NFL game.

“Good or bad, I’ll replay this,” Gettis said Saturday after practice. “There’s always something you can work on better. You’ve got to work like you’re the starter. It’s just a great opportunity to be out there. It went decent.”

Chester started every game at right guard last season. He sat out practice Saturday but did take the field toward the end of the workout to test his ankle.

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said that Chester could return to action late this week, but until that time, Gettis will continue working with the first team.
