John Beck will start at quarterback tonight for the Washington Redskins against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers but 15 regular contributors will have the night off.

It’s the second start of the preseason for Beck, who got the nod in the team’s second preseason game, but came off the bench last week against Baltimore and alternated series with Rex Grossman.

In his first start, Beck completed 14 of 17 passes for 140 yards. Last week, he hit six of 10 passes for 108 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Ravens.

Beck and Grossman continue to battle for the starting quarterback position for Mike Shanahan and the Redskins.

Grossman has started two games this preseason, completing 34 of 53 passes for 407 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Offensive players officially ruled out for this game are running backs Tim Hightower and Roy Helu, fullback Darrel Young, and receivers Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney and tight end Fred Davis.

Starting in their places will be rookie Evan Royster at running back, Mike Sellers at fullback, Anthony Armstrong and Niles Paul at wide receiver and Logan Paulsen at tight end.

On defense, linemen Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen, linebackers London Fletcher, Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan and Rocky McIntosh, cornerback DeAngelo Hall and safeties Reed Doughty and Oshiomogho Atogwe all are out.

Starting in place of them will be Chris Neild and Kedric Golston at nose tackle and end, respectively, Keyaron Fox and Perry Riley at inside linebacker, Rob Jackson and Lorenzo Alexander at outside linebacker, and Anderson Russell and DeJon Gomes at the safety positions. Phillip Buchanon and Josh Wilson will start at cornerback.
