In his previous 44 career games, linebacker Brian Orakpo had 25.5 sacks. But 16 of those games were against NFC East foes and in those contests he’d managed only half a sack.
Orakpo’s fortunes against division opponents finally changed Sunday, as the third-year pass-rusher registered a full sack against an NFC quarterback.
“It’s crazy — you got all these sacks and I never really sacked a division opponent,” Orakpo said. “It’s good to get that monkey off my back.”
Orakpo’s sack came late in the game when the Giants were throwing heavily in a no-huddle offense, trying to overcome a 20-point deficit. On first-and-10 from the New York 37-yard line, Orakpo finally got to Eli Manning for a three-yard loss. It was his seventh sack of the season.
“I’m telling you, it’s tough. Guys, they know who I am. It’s hard to get the sacks, especially in the division,” Orakpo said. “It’s just great to finally get Eli in my third year. I can build off it, man.”
