The NFL has fined Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo $15,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick in last Sunday’s game.
Orakpo was flagged for unnecessary roughness after he hit Vick just after the quarterback threw the ball away in the end zone during the first quarter of Washington’s 20-13 loss.
Six games into the season, Redskins players have now been fined a total of $80,000 for illegal hits. Fullback Darrel Young was fined $15,000 for a hit in the season opener, and three weeks later, rookie receiver Niles Paul was fined $20,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit while on punt coverage. In the same game, linebacker Rob Jackson received a $15,000 fine for roughing the passer, and fellow linebacker Perry Riley also received a $15,000 hit for unnecessary roughness while on punt coverage.
