Neither Davis nor Cooley were targeted in the first two exhibition outings, but Cooley had a four-yard catch in the first quarter, and Davis had two catches for 16 yards, including a long of 11 yards.
Cooley started at fullback against Buffalo and Chicago with first-stringer Darrel Young sidelined by a pulled hamstring. Cooley was announced as the starting fullback against Indianapolis, but roster hopeful Dorson Boyce actually lined up there first.
Davis had played his usual starting tight end role in the first two preseason games, but the Redskins targeted only Niles Paul (who this offseason converted from receiver to tight end) and fellow backup Logan Paulsen against Buffalo and Chicago.
Both Davis and Cooley had said they weren’t too concerned about the lack of targets because they believed that once the regular season began, they would be used in much the same way as Paul and Paulsen
