Fire and police officials said victims taken to the hospital had injuries that were minor or not serious.
Following the Redskins’ 34-19 loss to the New York Jets Sunday afternoon, several fans were injured in an escalator accident as they tried to leave FedEx Field.
About six fans were taken to area hospitals for evaluation following the accident. Details about their conditions were not immediately known. Tony Wyllie, the team’s senior vice president, issued the following statement Sunday evening:
“A few fans were injured on an escalator in an incident at the end of the game. The Prince George’s County Emergency Response team immediately responded and those few fans were taken to the hospital to be evaluated. We take pride in having the highest safety records among professional sports venues in the United States. We’d like to thank the emergency response team for their quick response.”
