Quick Hits II: John Beck practices, appears rusty

Coach Mike Shanahan said quarterback John Beck didn’t feel any limitations during a second straight day of practice. Beck worked with the second team during 11-on-11 drills this morning, a day after taking the bulk of the first-team snaps. Later in practice, during the second portion of 11-on-11 work, Beck was with the first team. Beck appeared rusty with several overthrows and underthrows.

Safety LaRon Landry said he hopes to come off of the PUP list on Wednesday and play against Baltimore in the third game of the preseason on Aug. 25.

Shanahan said he had his days mixed up yesterday and that running back Ryan Torain will see a specialist Tuesday, rather than today.

Here are more updates from practice:

Running back James Davis was not at practice today, and Shanahan said he had no idea why. “Missing in action, I would say,” Shanahan said.

Graham Gano missed his first three field goal attempts - all while kicking into a wind - before finally making his fourth. Then coaches sent the whole team onto the field to circle around the field goal unit and yell and waive their hands. Gano made that attempt as well.

Cornerback Josh Wilson had his upper right thigh wrapped during the later portion of practice. Shanahan said the corner suffered from some groin/hamstring tightness.

Rookie Leonard Hankerson has struggled to hang onto the ball most of camp, but on Monday sported a new pair of gloves and made several nice grabs.

With starting safeties LaRon Landry and Oshiomogho Atogwe out, rookie DeJon Gomes got some work with the first team late in practice.

The Redskins’ preseason game versus Pittsburgh drew a 16.3 TV rating, the team’s highest in at least 20 years. The ratings weren’t kept in the 1980s.
