“It’s pretty cool to be recognized for little things like that, especially after your first game, but the thing I’m most excited is that we got a win in my first game,” Kerrigan said when reached by phone Tuesday.

The Redskins had Tuesday off, but Kerrigan already had been at the team’s complex to lift weights and run and was heading back later in the day to watch some game film.

“I just want to keep working, and hopefully continue to make plays and help my team win,” Kerrigan said.

The other nominees for Rookie of the Week are Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin, Green Bay kick returner/receiver Randal Cobb, Carolina quarterback Cam Newton and Arizona cornerback/punt returner Patrick Peterson.

Baldwin had four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown., Cobb had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown and also returned a kick 108 yards for a touchdown. Newton passed for 422 yards and two touchdowns, and Peterson returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown.
