Kory Lichtensteiger ready to go at full speed

Lichtensteiger tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in the fifth game of the 2011 season and had recovered in time to open training camp at full speed. But two days into camp, Lichtensteiger experienced some discomfort in the same knee and had arthroscopic surgery.

He has been sidelined ever since, but last week began going through individual drills. Coach Mike Shanahan did not say how extensively Lichtensteiger drilled Monday.

Lichtensteiger said Monday morning that his knee felt good and that he didn’t expect to have any limitations.

“Today I’m really going to test it out for the first time. … But I don’t see any reason why I can’t [practice fully],” Lichtensteiger said.

Lichtensteiger said that he would like to play in the preseason finale Wednesday against Tampa Bay, but didn’t know whether Redskins coaches would allow him to. He would prefer to get some live game action before the season opener, but if he doesn’t, he expects to be able to adjust.

“It’s going to present some challenges,” Lichtensteiger said. “It’s going to be more about me trusting my knee more than anything. I don’t expect there to be any drop-off, though.”

Second-year pro Maurice Hurt has started at left guard with Lichtensteiger sidelined.
