Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that strong safety LaRon Landry was held out of practice so the team could further evaluate his healing strained Achilles’ tendon, and added that the team has placed Landry, fellow safety Kareem Moore and inside linebacker Robert Henson on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list “for precautionary reasons.”

Moore and Henson both are recovering from knee surgeries, and Shanahan said that none of the three are completely healthy and putting them on the PUP list gives them time to work their way back without the risk of losing a roster spot. Unlike Injured Reserve — on which a player is not allowed to return at any point during the season — a player is allowed to remain on the PUP list for eight weeks and come off whenever he has fully recovered.
