Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said safety LaRon Landry will have surgery on his left Achilles’ tendon at the end of the season and will be placed on injured reserve.
Landry saw a specialist this week, and a recommendation was made for surgery. Landry will see a couple more specialists to get another opinion before having the surgery.
Shanahan didn’t know the specifics of what work would be done during the surgery.
Shanahan said it means more opportunities for rookie DeJon Gomes, who will start the rest of the season at strong safety.
Right tackle Jammal Brown (groin) and fullback Mike Sellers (elbow) did not practice.
Linebacker London Fletcher (ankle), punter Sav Rocca (ankle) were among players limited in practice.
