Washington Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday “it sounds like” the team will take Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night.
The Redskins’ selection of Griffin became a foregone conclusion when the Indianapolis Colts announced Tuesday they would take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the top choice. Redskins officials said after they traded for the second pick in March that they would take Griffin or Luck.
Shanahan said at a pre-draft news conference Wednesday at Redskins Park that “it sounds like Indy is committed” to Luck. He said “nothing is 100 percent” but expressed excitement that the Redskins would be able to select Griffin.
