Coach Mike Shanahan said that running back Ryan Torain, defensive end Adam Carriker and kick/punt returner Brandon Banks all practiced without limitation Monday.

Shanahan expects Torain, who missed the first three preseason games with a broken hand, to play Thursday but hasn’t made a decision on Banks because team trainers need to see how his knee responds.

Shanahan said he will treat this week’s game similarly to the third preseason game because the Redskins have a larger roster than usual and because there has been less time to evaluate the roster.

The team must get down to 80 players Tuesday afternoon, but Shanahan said that cutting those nine players won’t be as much of a challenge as will going from 80 to 53 next week. Shanahan said the players on the “physically unable to perform” list will count against the 80 but not against the 53, according to league rules.

Shanahan said he wouldn’t put Malcolm Kelly on injured reserve with a sore foot and hopes he will be back on the field in a couple of days. Shanahan acknowledged that evaluating Kelly will be tricky because he hasn’t played and is unlikely to play Thursday.
