— Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said that safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (knee, toe) and tackle Jammal Brown (groin) and linebacker Keyaron Fox (skin infection) didn't practice on Thursday.

Shanahan said Jammal was unlikely to play Sunday.

— Safety LaRon Landry (Achilles) and tackle Trent Williams (ankle) practiced fully.

— Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said it's important for his unit to begin generating some big plays. He said last week the defense played soft to prevent Washington from going deep.

Shanahan said the 49ers laid off pressuring the Redskins — forcing them to work their way down the field in small chunks — more than any team they have faced this season.

— Shanahan said that John Beck missed a couple of downfield opportunities, but overall, he sees improvement in the quarterback's decision making.

The offensive coordinator said he's "still figuring out who [Beck] is" as a quarterback and what his strengths and weaknesses are and how that impacts his playcalling.

— New Redskins Tashard Choice (running back) and David Anderson (wide receiver) have looked good in practice, Shanahan said, but still are learning the offense.
