Quick hits: Roy Helu, Jammal Brown, Mike Sellers unable to practice fully

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said running back Roy Helu (knee, toe) went through drill work but didn’t practice fully on Tuesday. Shanahan expected Helu to be able to practice on Wednesday.

Shanahan said right tackle Jammal Brown (groin) and fullback Mike Sellers (elbow) were both limited in practice today.

Shanahan said that he likes the potential he has seen in defensive end Doug Worthington and wanted to give the player a chance to show what he can do in games. Shanahan likes the speed and receiving ability of tight end Rob Myers.

Shanahan plans to speak with suspended players Trent Williams and Fred Davis later today to lay out what is expected of them over the final weeks of the season.

Shanahan jokingly called it “unfortunate” that the Redskins have to go against Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, who leads the NFL in sacks this year. Shanahan used to face Allen twice a year when he coached the Denver Broncos and recalled the problems that he always caused his teams.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
