Redskins’ 2011 schedule to be released today

This evening, the NFL will release the schedule for the 2011 season despite the uncertainty of the labor dispute between the league’s owners and players. The schedule will be released on the NFL Network and at 7 p.m.

The Redskins already know what teams they will play. The league released that rundown at the completion of the 2010 season. They just don’t know the order in which they will face those teams.

The Redskins will have home games against the Arizona Cardinals (5-11 last season), the Dallas Cowboys (6-10), Minnesota Vikings (6-10), New England Patriots (14-2), New York Jets (11-5), New York Giants (10-6), Philadelphia Eagles (10-6) and San Francisco 49ers (6-10).

Washington will play on the road against the Buffalo Bills (4-12), Carolina Panthers (2-14), Miami Dolphins (7-9), Seattle Seahawks (7-9), St. Louis Rams (7-9), the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles.

Dates and times of those matchups will be announced tonight.

The NFL announced on Monday that the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face each other in London. The Redskins could have played the Bills in Toronto, where Buffalo plays one regular season game per year, but a report from a Toronto radio personality Tuesday morning said the Bills will host the Eagles in Toronto.

The NFL last week announced the preseason schedule, and Washington will play at Indianapolis and at Baltimore and will host Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
