Redskins’ Aug. 29 preseason game start time changed

The Washington Redskins announced that their Aug. 29 preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. The game, which will take place at FedEx Field, originally was scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has said that he doesn’t plan on playing his starters much – if at all – in that game. Instead, the contest will be used primarily to evaluate players battling for the final roster spots on the team.

The Redskins will have a short turnaround from this Saturday’s preseason home opener against Indianapolis. Shanahan will give his players Sunday off, and the team will practice Monday and Tuesday.

The game will come two days before final roster cuts. NFL teams must trim their rosters from 90 to 75 players by 4 p.m. Monday, and must get down to 53 players by 9 p.m. on Aug. 31.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
