Despite their bye week, the Redskins’ standing in the NFC East improved last weekend, and the team is earning more respect in the national power rankings as well.

With 2-2 Dallas also idle, and the Eagles and Giants losing, the Redskins gained sole possession of first place in the NFC East, and went from 12th to 10th in ESPN’s Week 6 power rankings.

The ESPN rankings are determined by the votes of writers John Clayton, Ashley Fox, James Walker, Paul Kuharsky and Mike Sando.

Washington ranks one spot ahead of the 3-2 Oakland Raiders and just behind the 4-1 San Francisco 49ers.

Over at, Brian Billick ranks the Redskins 10th for a second straight week. The former Ravens coach slots Washington ahead of Houston (3-2) and behind Pittsburgh (3-2). gives Washington the No. 8 spot in its weekly power rankings. Elliot Harrison has the San Diego Chargers (4-1) seventh, and the 49ers ninth. Harrison moved the Redskins up two spots this week based on losses by Houston and Tampa Bay.

The Post’s Mark Maske, as noted earlier, also gave the Redskins the 10th-place spot in his weekly list.
