Redskins-Jets: Darrel Young is out

The Washington Redskins will be without starting fullback Darrel Young as they take on the New York Jets. Young suffered a concussion in last week’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He passed baseline tests for a return and took some snaps Friday, but the team chose to keep him sidelined for this week’s game as a precaution.

Mike Sellers will handle the fullback duties with Young sidelined.

Also inactive for the Redskins will be starting strong safety LaRon Landry (groin), cornerback Brandyn Thompson, linebacker Markus White and backup linemen Willie Smith and Tyler Polumbus.

Back in action this week will be rookie receiver Niles Paul, who missed the last three games with turf toe.

It appears that Reed Doughty will start at strong safety, though rookie DeJon Gomes also could see time at that position.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
