At Tuesday’s informal workout, the Redskins’ defensive captain, London Fletcher, participated during team drills with a folded sheet of paper hanging from the back of his shorts.

Between plays, Fletcher would call out a play from the paper. As the offense approached the line of scrimmage, he shouted, “let’s try open left, open left,” as the defense audibled before the snap.

It was all part of the team’s efforts to continue to learn the 3-4 defense, which the Redskins installed last season.

“We’ve added a couple new plays,” Fletcher said. “A couple refreshers in there. Once we get back to playing football, the coaches will install the stuff again, so it definitely helps us.”
