Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen and St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead have issued a joint statement, officially announcing the trade that gives Washington the No. 2 overall pick of the draft.

Washington late Friday night agreed to send their first-round (sixth overall) and second-round picks this year, plus first-round picks in both 2013 and 2014, to St. Louis for the rights to select what is expected to be Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

The statement from the teams reads: “In order to execute each of our club’s plans for free agency and the upcoming draft, we have agreed to a trade between our two teams for the 2nd pick in the 2012 draft. We will submit this trade to the NFL for approval.”

The trade will not become official until 4 p.m. Tuesday - the start of the NFL’s 2012 year of business.
