Redskins waive Chase Minnifield, sign David Jones

The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday that they have waived rookie cornerback Chase Minnifield and replaced him on the roster with cornerback David Jones.

Minnifield, a former U-Va. standout, was signed as an undrafted free agent in April. He was regarded as a high draft pick before suffering a knee injury that required surgery. Minnifield had returned to the field in a limited capacity this spring during Washington’s organized team activities, and expected to be at full strength by training camp.

But, it appears that he remains a ways off in his recovery. The Redskins announced that if Minnifield goes unclaimed, he will return to Washington’s injured reserve list.

Jones has played sparingly since he was drafted by New Orleans in 2007. He spent last season with Jacksonville.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
