Running back Roy Helu, who missed last Saturday’s game against Minnesota, was limited in practice Wednesday, Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said. “We’ll judge him as the week goes on,” he said.

Shanahan said that London Fletcher is a first alternate for the Pro Bowl, which means he’s among the first players who would be added to the roster in the event some players can’t play in the game.

Shanahan said he can’t give details on alternates but says the Redskins have five in all. Fletcher, Lorenzo Alexander and Brian Orakpo are expected to be three of them.

Shanahan said quarterback John Beck would play in the season finale if Rex Grossman gets hurt this weekend. “We play to win,” he said.

Washington promoted rookie Aldrick Robinson this week because another team was trying to sign him, Shanahan said.

Of releasing running back Ryan Torain, Shanahan says, “You have to make some tough decisions sometimes.”
