Washington Redskins fullback/tight end Mike Sellers has been ruled inactive for his team’s season opener against the New York Giants.

Sellers, the team’s starting fullback the last seven seasons, lost his job to second-year pro Darrel Young this season, but made the team as a backup fullback and tight end.

A strong special teams contributor as well, Sellers has missed only four games (all because of injury) in the last seven seasons.

Also inactive for the Redskins are wide receivers Donte Stallworth and Leonard Hankerson, strong safety LaRon Landry, linebacker Markus White and offensive lineman Willie Smith.

Hankerson and White are the only Redskins’ rookie draft picks who will not dress for this game.

The Redskins’ wide receivers will be Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney, Anthony Armstrong, Terrence Austin and rookie Niles Paul.

Landry was ruled out on Friday because of a slowly-healing right hamstring.

Inactive for the Giants are defensive end Justin Tuck, receiver Jerrel Jernigan, tight end Travis Beckum, lineman Mitch Petrus, defensive end Osi Umenyiora, tackle James Brewer and cornerback Prince Amukamara.

Tuck was in and out of practice this week with a neck injury.
