SI player poll: Landry ninth meanest player in NFL

Sports Illustrated conducted a poll among NFL players to identify the 15 meanest players in the league, and Washington strong safety LaRon Landry was voted ninth on the list.

Landry has built a reputation for his hard hits and carries the nickname of “Dirty 30.” Last season he was in contention for Defensive MVP before a strained Achilles’ tendon forced him to miss the final seven games of the season. Landry at that point had racked up 85 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception.

He has appeared in the last two games for the Redskins, recording seven tackles and a forced fumble.

Listed ahead of Landry on the meanest player poll are Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward (8), Rams lineman Harvey Dahl (7), Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs (6), Dolphins lineman Richie Incognito (5), Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour (4), Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (3), Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis (2) and Steelers linebacker James Harrison at the top spot.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
