Ecstatic over happy hours

Crowds enjoy the rooftop happy hour at El Centro D.F. (Fritz Hahn/The Washington Post)

If you’re looking for new places for cut-price drinks after work, check out our list of the area’s best dirt-cheap happy hours. It’s full of beat-the-clock deals and intern-friendly specials.

Some happy hours mean dealing with crowds just to get $2.50 Bud Light bottles. But what if the reward were half-price Belgian beers or a selection of 20 wines by the glass for $5? You’ll find these and other ideas on our list of the best happy hours for impressing a date.

Happy hour doesn’t have to be limited to the work week, either. Try some of my favorite Saturday and Sunday happy hours, including $4 margaritas on the roof of El Centro D.F. on 14th Street. (Note: That’s deal’s offered every day of the week.)

One of the area’s coolest new happy hours can be found in Bethesda. The daily “Clams and Cans” deal at Freddy’s Lobster + Clams pairs a heaping portion of fried whole-belly clams with any canned beer from the restaurant’s excellent list of microbrews. (21st Amendment’s Hop Crisis is a fine choice.)
