This year’s concert is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 16, the center announced today, and while many of the Kennedy Center’s free concerts these days have employed a lottery system, scoring tickets to see the Grammy Award-winning McFerrin (of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” fame) will remain an offline affair. Beginning at 5 p.m. the day of the concert, guests can get up to two tickets each by waiting in line in the center’s Hall of Nations.

The KenCen’s celebrations of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, held since 2003 in collaboration with Georgetown University, have attracted such big name talent as Patti LaBelle, Brian McKnight, Denyce Graves and India.Arie. Performers are backed by the Let Freedom Ring choir, assembled from a group of Georgetown students and local performers, all led by Nolan Williams Jr. (Check out footage from those previous Let Freedom Ring concerts.)
